Do it yourself 2.0
How and what you can do for yourself using software, digital equipment and systems: in the interest of simplifying action and products in the digital world.
New techniques proposed by the digital world put the possibility of achieving and participating in creative work within the reach of a greater number of people. This invitation to take an active part through equipment and computer software is becoming a main theme in the evolution of multimedia practices – whether it be for leisure or education, fun or training.
Through the call for papers for this symposium, we are putting several questions to the professional and scientific communities:
The main focus will be on computer software, equipment and systems which teach a skill to the user – which relates to the latest idea of “home built” and also of “home multimedia”. Further to that we will question the democratization of abilities and tools, the objectives which influence this democratization, the means (economic, marketing, communicational, engineering, ergonomic, cultural, esthetic, semiotic – etc, the list is not exhaustive) used by the players in the digital world to reach those objectives, and the cultural and socio-professional phenomenon which are more or less directly linked to those objectives, for example (an open list) :
The call for papers is open to all fields relating to multimedia, whilst retaining a consistent theme, which one could summarise as follows : from the point of view of simplification – why, how and with what end results should we simplify the uses of programmes and systems.
In accordance with the principle of interdisciplinary discussion which prevails at Ludovia symposiums, we invite researchers in Human and Social Sciences from all disciplines, researchers in Engineering Sciences, and equally digital specialists, professionals in education, multimedia, video games, marketing and publicity to submit their topic proposals.
