09.30 – 13.00: Conference: Virtual reality, social
networks, video games: their impact on learning and education
How to gauge the impact of digital technologies on education
and learning? In the 1990s, Patricia Greenfield demonstrated
the combined influence of education, communication and
information technologies on the development of non-verbal
IQ (Médiamorphoses 2001).
Interactive programmes were found to develop the ability
to express oneself through images and to understand the
language of images. Since the 1990s use of such programmes
has spread through all aspects of daily life; their functions
have multiplied: virtual reality, social networks, file
sharing have taken over aspects of friendship, play, emotional
and professional life, giving a graphic form to what is
in real life a state of mind… methods of observation
and analysis should explore in depth the cultural, social,
communicational and imaginative dimensions of this phenomenon.
Studies in sociology, geography, information and communication
science, psychology and semiotics intersect to produce
a multidisciplinary picture of the practical effects of
the digital experience on individual perception and socialisation.

Ludovia Magazine Québec, and Serge Soudoplatoff,
